Privacy Policy

Introduction

Development and Peace – Caritas Canada is committed to protecting the confidentiality of personal information, in accordance with the principles set out in the Canadian Privacy Act as well as those enacted by the Government of Quebec’s privacy legislation, Law 25.

Protection of Personal Information

The policy and practices describe how Development and Peace – Caritas Canada collects, uses, retains and protects personal information in the course of its activities.

Development and Peace – Caritas Canada is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information of donors, supporters, members, partners, staff and other persons connected with the organization, in accordance with applicable privacy principles.

This policy also applies to all pages of the Development and Peace – Caritas Canada website and to all information contained therein. However, it does not apply to pages posted by other organizations to which we may refer and whose privacy policies may differ from ours.

By accessing, visiting or using the Development and Peace – Caritas Canada website (devp.org/en), you agree to the terms and conditions of this Policy.

Responsability

Development and Peace – Caritas Canada is responsible for the information collected, including information entrusted to a third party for processing. The Organization ensures that information entrusted to a third party remains confidential and provides that information with a comparable level of protection.

Determining the Collection of Personal Information

Development and Peace – Caritas Canada collects and uses the following personal information only with the consent of the individuals concerned:

  • Name, address, telephone, cell and fax numbers, e-mail address, date of birth, credit card number, banking information, and language of correspondence. This information is never used, communicated to third parties or otherwise disseminated without the consent of the person concerned, except in cases authorized by law.

Consent and Collection of Information

The collection of this information allows us, among other things, to:

  • process donations, issue tax receipts and membership cards, where applicable;

  • solicit and raise funds as well as personalize your experience as a donor at Development and Peace – Caritas Canada;

  • launch and manage our Web and social media campaigns;

  • inform donors and members about Development and Peace – Caritas Canada activities, events and other opportunities for engagement, including through our newsletters;

  • complete your registration for a training session, fundraising event, webinar, petition signing or advocacy activity in which you wish to participate;

  • respond to your requests;

  • manage our service agreements with our suppliers for administrative and human resources purposes;

  • ensure the safety of our staff, members, volunteers and others who may be associated with Development and Peace – Caritas Canada in order to meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

By subscribing to the Development and Peace – Caritas Canada newsletter, you agree to receive regular communications by e-mail regarding our Organization and our activities.

Limiting Solicitations and Unsubscribing

You can stop receiving our communications or solicitations at any time. We invite you to write to us at info@devp.org specifying the means of communication that we used to reach you.

Limiting the Use, Disclosure and Retention of Personal Information

Access to information is limited to a restricted group of Development and Peace – Caritas Canada employees, volunteers, ad hoc advisors or subcontractors specially assigned for that purpose, and only in the performance of their duties. In addition to agreeing to keep the information confidential, these people must sign a form to that effect.

Accuracy

The accuracy of personal information is important to us. It must be as accurate, complete and up-to-date as is necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used. We invite you to notify us of any changes at info@devp.org or call us toll-free at 1-888-234-8533.

Access to Personal Information

We ensure that our policies and practices are understandable and easy to access. We welcome all requests for information or clarification.

Upon request, an individual may obtain, within a reasonable time, information about his or her personal file, how it is used, and whether it has been disclosed to third parties. It will also be possible to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate.

We may ask the person concerned for identifying information so that we can inform him or her of the existence, use and disclosure of personal information. The information thus provided must be used for that purpose only.

Security Measures

Personal information is protected by security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

We guarantee that:

  • donor data will be processed only by qualified personnel;

  • staff are made aware of the importance of protecting the confidentiality of personal information;

  • information will be stored in a protected database;

  • our website’s donation page is protected, encrypted or encoded to ensure the security of the information;

  • all supporting paper files are kept in locked filing cabinets, access to these filing cabinets is selective and access to the office itself is also restricted.


We keep personal information secure for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, and for as long as required by law.

Transparency and Complaints

We make information about our policies and practices regarding the management of personal information readily available to everyone. A concerned individual may address a challenge concerning compliance with this policy in writing.

Refund Policy

All donations and contributions, whether made online, by telephone or by mail, are non-refundable. If you accidentally make the same donation twice, please contact us.

Monthly donors can cancel future donations by contacting us.

Terms and Conditions of Website Use

  • Our website and the information, names, images, photographs, logos concerning or referring to Development and Peace – Caritas Canada are provided “as is”, without any representation or interpretation and without warranty of any kind, either express or implied. Under no circumstances shall Development and Peace – Caritas Canada be held liable for any damages caused, including direct or indirect damages without limitation, or any other damage caused by the use or in connection with the use or loss of use of the site whatsoever arising out of or in connection with the use or loss of use of the site, whether with contract or not.

  • Development and Peace – Caritas Canada does not guarantee that the functionality contained in the website will be uninterrupted or error-free. However, we guarantee that defects will be corrected and that we will ensure that the site or server will be free of viruses or bugs and that it will represent the full functionality, accuracy and correctness of the content.

  • Copyright Restrictions:

    • Any use or publication for commercial purposes of all or part of the sections of the website is strictly prohibited without the prior authorization of Development and Peace – Caritas Canada.

    • Documents and/or photos may be copied for personal use on condition that the copyright and source are also copied, that no modifications are made to these documents and/or photos and that they are copied in their entirety.
