Bequest by will

Leave a legacy of hope

This is a simple way to pass on your values of sharing through the gift of part, all or the residue of your estate.

A bequest in your will allow you to:

  • Make a larger gift than you had previously planned

  • Reduce the income tax on your estate for your heirs

  • Not significantly change your current financial situation while maintaining control over your assets until your death

Formulating your bequest by will

Here are the different types of bequests and the testamentary clauses that we recommend:

Specific bequest

You leave a specific amount to our organisation. This is a simple choice, through which you can bequeath a sum of money, an RRSP, a RRIF, publicly traded securities or a movable asset.

I bequeath to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (Charity Number 11882 9902 RR0001) the sum of $ ___ (or description of bequeathed property: shares, jewellery, real estate, etc.), for the general purposes that the Organization will determine.

The universal legacy

You bequeath all real and personal property to Development and Peace – Caritas Canada.

I bequeath to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (Charity Number 11882 9902 RR0001) all my real and personal property, for the general purposes that the Organization will determine.

Legacy by general title

Your bequest legacy by general title provides for the division of your estate between your heirs and our organisation, by allocating a share or percentage of your property to each.

I bequeath ___% (e.g., 75%) of all my real and personal property to my children and I bequeath ___% (e.g., 25%) to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (Charity Number 11882 9902 RR0001), for such general purposes as the Organization shall determine.

Residuary bequest

You bequeath all or a percentage of your assets to our organization or to several beneficiaries, after payment of debts, taxes, expenses and other specific bequests.

I bequeath the residue of all my real and personal property to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (Charity Number 11882 9902 RR0001), for such general purposes as the Organization shall determine.
