“Dear young people, please, do not be bystanders in life. Get involved! […] Don’t stand aloof, but immerse yourselves in the reality of life, as Jesus did. Above all, in one way or another, fight for the common good, serve the poor, be protagonists of the revolution of charity and service….”
― Pope Francis, Christus Vivit, 174
Passionate about social justice? Wondering what causes of global poverty? Looking to develop your leadership skills? Think a more just world is possible? Want to help build it?
Development and Peace ― Caritas Canada is just your kind of movement!
Young people can be involved in our movement and stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in the Global South in several ways including walking in climate marches, travelling to meet our partners on solidarity tours, becoming members, representing the youth voice at national and international conferences and even helping chart our course by serving on our governing council.
Here’s what some of our young members say about their Development and Peace ― Caritas Canada experience.
The D&P Schools Program helps Catholic schools engage social and global justice issues through the lens of their faith. Inspired by Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’, the program encourages school communities to nurture three fundamental and interconnected relationships: to God, to each other, and to the natural world. Pope Francis says that when we nurture these relationships, we promote an integral ecology that “takes us to the heart of what it is to be human.”
Registered D&P Schools will be connected with a local animator who will accompany you and your students as you complete the world-changing challenges listed in our Program Kit. Each challenge corresponds to a virtual “badge” so you can track your progress. Earn as many as you can during the school year! Register here.
