Development and Peace – Caritas Canada’s documentary After the Storm: Building the Pope Francis Village was awarded the 2019 prize of excellence for an audiovisual production by the Association of Catholic and Ecumenic Media (AMéCO). The prize was handed out during the association’s annual general congress at the end of October.

Filmed over three years, After the Storm follows survivors of Typhoon Haiyan as they rebuild their lives and a new community after facing eviction from their traditional homes along the coastline of Tacloban. With support from Development and Peace and its partners in the Philippines, survivors came together to design and build a new village that offers them a brighter and more resilient future. The 47-minute documentary was released last year on the 5th anniversary of Super Typhoon Haiyan, which has come to be seen as emblematic of extreme weather caused by climate change.

The film will air on Salt +Light TV on November 9th at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT. Make sure to tune in!
