Watch this webinar to learn more about the work of the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT), Development and Peace’s partner in Brazil. In this special presentation, the CPT’s Sister Jean Bellini will discuss her organization’s work; the situation of peasants, landless people and rural communities; and the issues of land rights, water rights and modern-day slave labour.
Born and raised in rural Long Island, not far from New York City, Bellini grew up with her seven siblings on their parents’ duckling farm. After studying Biology and Education, she joined the religious community of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester, NY, in 1966. Sr. Bellini has lived in Brazil since 1976, when she first went there on an SSJ mission. She has been involved with the CPT for almost 40 years, and has served on its National Executive since 2015.
Sr. Bellini’s life and work were profiled in The New Yorker earlier this year.
