Cyclone Idai leaves 3 million people in need of aid

Over 3 million people in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe are in need of urgent aid after Tropical Cyclone Idai ravaged the region.

The cyclone’s torrential rains and high winds destroyed houses, businesses and crops, and close to 300,000 people in those countries are now homeless.

Mozambique, where the cyclone first made landfall, has the greatest needs. The city of Beira was particularly hard-hit, and cases of cholera have been reported there.

Development and Peace – Caritas Canada is working with Caritas Mozambique to come to the aid of over 27,000 of those most affected by this disaster. We are helping to provide basic hygiene and sanitation supplies, kitchen items so people can resume cooking, emergency shelter materials and other life-saving necessities.

Your gift can make a difference in the lives of those most in need.

Displaced people in the city of Beira must find refuge after their homes were destroyed or flooded.
