Development and Peace ― Caritas Canada (DPCC) is proud to present the Montreal premiere of Karuara, People of the River on the famed Cinema Politica documentary film platform.
DPCC had made a financial contribution to the production of this documentary and its accompanying illustrated book. The film won the Audience Choice Award and the Best Peruvian Film Award at the 28th Lima Film Festival and Peru’s National Award for feature-length documentary projects.
It tells the story of the struggles of an Indigenous Amazonian people to keep their traditional ways and their spiritual connection to their river alive in the face of existential threats from the plunder of foreign corporations.
This screening of Karuara, People of the River will be preceded by a very short introduction to DPCC and its work and followed by a discussion with some of the film’s auteurs. A DPCC team will also be on hand, showcasing our Turn Debt into Hope Campaign and collecting signatures on our petition.
