Since the beginning of Israel’s deadly war on Gaza, Caritas Jerusalem has brought vital aid and relief to conflict-affected people with the support of Development and Peace ― Caritas Canada and others in the Caritas family. In this statement, released to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, they recount some of the unimaginable hardships they have faced and call once again for peace and justice.
November 29, 2024
Dear friends and partners,
This past year has been an exceptionally challenging one for Caritas Jerusalem and the Palestinian people in the Holy Land. Living in Palestine has never been easy, but the events of this year have tested all limits. Violence, animosity, intolerance, denial of basic human rights, unprecedent attacks, confiscations, and arbitrary arrests have created a state of chaos unimaginable in any modern society of this century. Yet, despite these hardships, we at Caritas Jerusalem have continued to serve with unwavering determination. Through our medical, relief, psychosocial, humanitarian, and development projects and programs, we have positively impacted the lives of tens of thousands.
We are privileged to call Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and the Holy Land our home, and equally privileged to have you – our friends, partners, and colleagues – by our side. This year, your steadfast support, solidarity, and prayers have stood out as beacons of hope. We are honored to be part of this broader Caritas family and reaffirm our commitment to shining a light in the darkness, bringing hope to the hopeless, and working towards a brighter future for the next generation.
On this International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian people, we reiterate our urgent call for:
- An immediate ceasefire.
- The opening of humanitarian corridors.
- The release of hostages and those arbitrarily detained.
We implore all parties to end the senseless shedding of blood – particularly that of civilians, children, women, and the elderly.
Together, let us continue to advocate for peace, justice, and dignity for all.
In solidarity,
Caritas Jerusalem
