On August 16 and 17, 2025, the municipality of Lac-Bouchette, Que., came alive with the spirit of solidarity during a youth engagement, fundraising and awareness event organized by the young Development and Peace ― Caritas Canada (DPCC) members from the Diocese of Chicoutimi. The event, held at the St. Anthony Hermitage, was organized by Sonya Esparon, Franck Gnaoré, and François Gagnon, with the support of diocesan council chair Marie-Hélène Boivin. It brought nearly 90 people together in an atmosphere filled with mutual support, friendship and shared joy.

A creative, unifying approach to youth engagement

The organizers came up with an original idea to raise funds for DPCC. They designed pens featuring our logo and a local tag, which they sold during the event, offering people a way to make simple yet meaningful and concrete gesture of support.

The youths also led an awareness-raising activity around our campaign, which included inviting people to sign our petition and sparking educational conversations about international solidarity. The event was distinguished by its warm atmosphere and the sincere commitment of all participants, young and old, united by the desire to support DPCC’s work.

A concrete commitment to solidarity

Thanks to the participants’ generosity, a total of $140.65 was raised. Far beyond the amount collected, this contribution symbolizes a deep spirit of solidarity and a willingness to take local action to support global causes, particularly those affecting the most vulnerable communities. Every dollar collected represents a step toward a more equitable world and demonstrates young people’s capacity to turn their convictions into concrete action.

An inspiring and promising youth

This wonderful initiative raised awareness among young people and the community about the importance of generosity, sharing and international cooperation. It illustrated the strength of a committed, energetic and hopeful youth that firmly believes that together, it is possible to build a more just and united world.

Congratulations to all the young participants, facilitators, and volunteers for the success of this warm and inspiring activity, which was a true reflection of the common good in action!
