Hosting a solidarity dinner—whether an intimate meal with a few friends or a larger gathering with your parish, school or workplace—is a warm and powerful way to build community, share stories and raise vital funds for communities in Colombia through our Raise Hope initiative.

Have dinner with a friend or a small group, or consider hosting a larger meal with your parish, school, workplace or community.

This could be hosted in your home, a community space, parish hall, school etc. If you are hosting it at a venue, reserve the space and time in advance. If you are hosting a larger meal at your parish, consider seeking support from your local priest, Knights of Columbus or CWL. They could help book the space and would know about using the church kitchen, tables, chairs etc.

Invite guests to bring a dish that reflects their cultural background, family traditions or personal stories.

As the host, consider preparing a simple Colombian dish or dessert to introduce your guests to some of the food and culture of Colombia.

Take a few minutes during the meal to explain why you’ve organized the dinner and who your fundraising is supporting.

Consider showing a short video or sharing information about the partner organization and the communities it works with.

Give guests an opportunity to donate through your peer-to-peer fundraising page. Consider putting a direct link and/or QR code to your page at the entrance. Cash is also welcome and can be given to your local animator or DPCC member to send to our head office.

Use the dinner as an opportunity to build connections, share stories and reflect on what solidarity means.
