The Organization
DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE – CARITAS CANADA is one of the leading Canadian international development NGOs and the official international solidarity organization of the Canadian Catholic Church. The organization supports local partners located in several countries of the Global South. With a network of members across Canada, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE – CARITAS CANADA raises the awareness of Canadians about the causes of worldwide poverty and injustice and mobilizes Canadians around actions for change.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Public Engagement and working in collaboration with the Youth Programs Officer and the animator for their region, the Youth Ambassador is part of the regional youth outreach and engagement program, that is intended to introduce young people to international solidarity while expanding the organization’s influence among a greater number of young people across the country.
Main fonctions:
- Support the animator and regional animation team in the development of new regional youth outreach and awareness building strategies (including social media tools) that are designed in accordance with the needs of their Diocesan Councils, as well as the national youth programming strategies and objectives;
- Participate in or lead regional youth activities related to education, advocacy and fundraising;
- Support the animator in preparing and giving presentations to young audiences to promote Development and Peace-Caritas Canada campaigns; participate in Diocesan Council meetings, the annual Regional Assembly, the monthly meetings of Youth Ambassadors and other relevant meetings, as required;
- Maintain communication and liaise with local youth representatives, leaders and key members as identified by the Animator and Youth Programs Officer;
- Attend young adult events within the Development and Peace-Caritas Canada network as a representative;
- Complete a progress journal outlining work activities and member interactions to share with Animator and Youth Programs Officer;
- Participate in collective Youth Ambassador programming initiatives and trainings planned by the Youth Programs Department;
- Update regional youth outreach resources and databases
Requirements
Languages
- Proficiency in the language covered by the region, namely French or English
- Ability to write in the language covered by the region
Software and computer programs
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative, including InDesign, and Microsoft Publisher (an asset)
- Mastery of social media and online communication tools (an asset)
Experience
- Experience delivering presentations (e.g., in schools, colleges, universities, parishes, etc.)
- Experience working with young adults
- Experience working in public awareness-raising, advocacy and fundraising
- Experience with Development and Peace-Caritas Canada campaigns, for example, the THINKfast program (an asset)
Specific knowledge
- Awareness of international development issues
- Familiarity with the Catholic Church’s commitment to social justice and international development
Communication
- Good communicator with good listening skills

Availability
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends

Working conditions
Student salary: $20/hour – Special agreement appended to collective agreement
