DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE – CARITAS CANADA is one of the leading Canadian international development NGOs and the official international solidarity organization of the Canadian Catholic Church. The organization supports local partners located in several countries of the Global South. With a network of members across Canada, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE – CARITAS CANADA raises the awareness of Canadians about the causes of worldwide poverty and injustice and mobilizes Canadians around actions for change.


The Fundraising Officer for Philanthropic Development is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the fundraising campaigns under his or her responsibility. The Officer’s field of activity will vary according to the department’s priorities and work plan as well as the Officer’s particular skills and experience, fostering complementarity of talents and interchangeability among members of the team. However, this person will be primarily responsible for planned giving and the follow-up of ongoing files.

The Officer’s work entails developing target clientele and initiating activities that involve prospecting, loyalty, recognition and accountability. The Officer will thus maintain ongoing relationships with current and potential donors.

The Officer will be actively involved in developing the Philanthropic Development Plan and assessing it within the framework of the strategic plan.

  1. To analyze the potential of our existing or potential donors and target those who may be interested in funding the Organization through planned giving;
  2. To identify the different markets of potential donors, develop personalized strategies for reaching them, rouse their interest in the Organization and thereby increase the number of potential donors;
  3. To assist and advise potential donors (or offer them professional financial and estate planning advice) in order to develop their confidence in the Organization and their propensity to donate;
  4. To prepare, organize and host information sessions for potential donors on the planned giving program;
  5. To participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of their annual work plan as well as the work plan of his/her department. To report on the qualitative and financial results of the various projects under their responsibility;
  6. To share within the team, the orientations established, the objectives pursued and the results to be achieved for his/her sector of activity.


Academic background
Bachelor’s degree in law, social sciences, communication, administration or equivalent.

Fluency in spoken and written French and English;
Ability to compose and revise texts in both languages.

Software and computer programs
Mastery of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel);
Knowledge of a database software.

Four years of relevant fundraising experience;
Relevant experience in planned giving, including endowment funds, bequests, insurance and life annuities;
Experience in a non-profit organization, working with volunteers or donors.

Specific knowledges
Excellent knowledge of pan-Canadian legislation encompassing fundraising;
Good knowledge of the Privacy Act;
Good knowledge of Canada’s social, economic, political, religious and cultural issues;
Good knowledge of international development issues;
Knowledge of the Church and its commitments to social justice and international development (asset).

Availability to travel in Canada and abroad;
Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
